This is Pearl and her son Levi. Levi was born on January 27, 2021. He was a mama's boy right from the start. We actually called Pearl a helicopter mom because she was extremely protective of her son. Though he is much larger now, he has turned into the sweetest boy and loves to get pets and kisses from his caretakers.
These are my nieces, Brie-Ann and Kate-Lyn with one of our favorite lambs, Elsa. Elsa was born on February 1, 2021 during a blizzard that eventually dumped 2 feet of snow in the area. She is the most loving girl and is friends with everyone. She's more like a dog than a lamb.
This is Bam Bam who was the most colorful lamb out of all the ones born. Bam Bam was born on April 27, 2021. His mom is Betty (hence the name Bam Bam). He has distinct brown markings all over his face and legs. At first people thought it might just be dirt, but I happened to be there when he was born and he definitely came out just like this.
This is Opal with her daughter Olive who was born on March 4, 2021. Olive is one of the sweetest lambs in the field. She is friendly and loves getting pet. Opal is a bit more reserved, but she is also a very sweet girl.
These are my nieces, Kate-Lyn and Brie-Ann holding the baby goats, Blaze and Bolt right after their horns started to come in. Blaze and Bolt were born on February 2, 2021. Baby goats are so stinking cute!
This is Dottie with her twin boys, Freckles and Patches who were born on January 22, 2021. Dottie is quite possibly the prettiest sheep of them all (though she may be tied with Xena for that title). She has a black dot on one ear, hence the name Dottie and her sons both have various spots of color on their faces and bodies.
This is one of my favorite photos of my niece Brie-Ann holding one of the baby lambs. You can just feel the love she has for these animals. This feeling is shared by many people. These animals are just awesome and so sweet. They have thrived since I got involved and have learned to trust humans more and more.
These are the goats in heaven after a round bale of hay was delivered this summer. They were very happy when that arrived and I think they stayed right around that bale for a couple of days.
This is my nephew Kyle feeding leaves to Bolt, one of the baby goats. He loved getting the goats to jump up on him like a dog and the baby goats were always happy to oblige when he had some tasty leaves to share with them.
Blaze and Bolt just hanging out on a sunny day. Some of my favorite days in the field were when the weather was nice and the animals could just hang out being content.
My niece Brie-Ann in the new shirt I got for her. The shirt says it all! I had no idea how much we could fall in love with a bunch of sheep and goats, but we did.
One of the best photos of the goats if I do say so myself. Goats seem to get them selves into all sorts of predicaments.
This is Pete, the only adult male goat of the bunch. He is a little bit reserved and has some scary looking horns, but he's actually pretty sweet and quite handsome.
These are the three adult male sheep. The two on the left are Curtis and Chaos. They could actually be twins as they look very similar and have beautiful long manes under their chins. The one on the right is George shortly after he was sheared back in March. The day he was sheared, George also got his horns cut because one of them was growing directly into the side of his face which was a dang
This is my nephew Kurt holding one of the lambs with my niece Brie-Ann looking adoringly at the lamb. I got my whole family involved with these animals and I was so lucky to have their help many times over the year.
This is Clarice, one of our favorite goats (but don't tell the others). Clarice was named after Rudolph's girlfriend, not the fictional FBI agent. She is a fan favorite amongst the group. She is tiny and a little skittish, but she is smart and resourceful which is how I think she survived.
This is Dottie with her twins Freckles and Patches just hanging out in the barn. The moms and babies are frequently together.
This is Autumn hanging out on a sunny day just enjoying the weather.
My niece Kate-Lyn with the smallest lamb, Star on a beautiful sunny day. Star is daughter to Luna and was born on April 25, 2021. One of the goats, Autumn, is perched on some pavers in the background. My nephew calls that goat a goat goddess statue when she sits on the pavers like that.
This is Betty on the right, with her son, Bam Bam to her left. I'm amazed by how close moms and babies stay even long after their births. I loved this photo of the two of them showing such a size difference, yet lying in almost the exact same position next to each other.
Here are the baby goats, Blaze and Bolt hanging out in my cart being curious as usual.
Here are a few of the sheep hanging out together.
This is Velma with her son Scooby who was born on March 20, 2021. I named her Velma after the freckled character in the Scooby Doo cartoons and her son naturally had to be named Scooby.
This is lady with her second set of twins born this year. Ivy and Izzy were born on August 16, 2021 and her first set of twins were born on January 8, 2021 (Lila and Liam). She's had a busy year, but she should be done with having babies now that she is in a home with no intact male sheep.
This is Spirit and her daughter Elsa, born on February 1, 2021.
This is my niece Kate-Lyn holding Levi while his mom Pearl looks on.
This is one of the lambs getting into a bag I had brought with popcorn. They absolutely love salted popcorn cooked in butter flavored oil. Yum!
This is Xena, along with her son Champion. It was recently discovered that Xena is blind. Though she is blind, she gets around quite well and has her family to help her navigate her pasture.
Xena and her two sisters, Kylie and Spirit, along with Xena’s son Champion and Spirit’s daughter Elsa, were part of this large herd. Xena, Kylie and Spirit are smaller self shedding sheep whose previous owner allowed large male sheep to mate with them. Because of this, these ladies had trouble delivering their babies as they were quite large.
Had it not been for an amazing young woman (my niece Kate-Lyn) who saw Xena having trouble delivering Champion and literally watched a YouTube video on how to help deliver a lamb, Champion and Xena most likely would have died during his birth. Amazingly, both survived! Xena earned her name that day because she truly was a warrior!
Spirit also had trouble delivering her daughter Elsa, who was born during a major snowstorm (hence the name Elsa), but as Elsa was a female, she was just a little bit smaller and though she struggled, Spirit was eventually able to deliver her unassisted.
Their previous owner told me that Xena, Kylie and Spirit were sisters and while I don’t know for sure that they are, they seem bonded so I'm very happy this little group was able to stay together.
PS - I might be a bit biased, but Champion and Elsa were two of our absolute favorite lambs!
