Hi there! My name is Julieanne and this is my site. If you asked anyone who knows me what one phrase they would use to describe me, it would most certainly be "animal lover". I have been an animal lover my entire life. I sometimes joke that my father grew up with cats and my mother grew up with dogs so I was destined from the beginning to love animals. As I grew up and learned what meat was, I became a vegetarian. After becomming involved with farm animals and learning more about the dairy industry, I am on now a path to becoming a vegan. Over the years, I have rescued several dogs and dozens of cats. In fact, the site name, Jazybell, is a combination of two of my former dogs' names (Jasmine and Belle). Not only do I love animals, but I want to do what I can to fight for their rights.
This desire to help animals led me to become involved with the neglected sheep and goats highlighted on this site. These poor animals had no one to speak for them when they were being neglected. Many people were concerned and did what they could including alerting authorities, but sadly, these authorities did nothing to correct the situation. I couldn't stand back and allow them to continue to suffer so I stepped in and started to care for them. Another thing people might say about me is that I am a determined person and you will see that this story reflects that.
I never thought in a million years that trying to help these animals by improving their shelter would lead to the place we are now. In the beginning, I couldn't possibly think of a conclusion to this story that would have a happy ending, but with my family, a lot of effort, a fair amount of money, some amazing people I have met along the way and the help of farm sanctuaries, we are very close to the most wonderful ending to this story for all of these animals. Just a little bit more help is needed to find permanent homes for the last 11 sheep when I will be able to very proudly say "we did it!" Despite losing a few animals on this journey, we really did save almost an entire herd of animals that at the height, reached 39 animals and we prevented so many more births and more importantly, so many more deaths.
I am hopeful that this site will help me finally reach the success I have been working so hard to achieve for the past several years. No matter what me, my family, my friends or the sanctuaries have done, the animals are the true heroes of this story. They lived through so much and took care of their children while just trying to survive themselves. I only wish they could understand how proud I am of each and every one of them!
Thank you for reading about their story!
With gratitude,
Julieanne
